With the inspiration of God within man’s mind, body, and soul applied to various ideas, anything can happen. Cartography paved the way for change in the way the U.S. military utilized maps. The American Civil War (1861-1865) is an excellent example of cartography’s progression.

How did the skill evolve from being a primitive, poor-quality guesswork type of profession to a precise highly-skilled one during the course of the war? Was map making easier for the North or the South? Why? How was postwar map making affected by what was learned during the Civil War?

The Civil War had no particular role in map making.

Of course, in war, accurate maps of the area in question are important, so as to guess where an enemy may proceed to and where they may deploy their forces.

This film shows how kindergarteners in Oxford Elementary School in Berkeley, San Francisco are introduced to mindfulness in school. They practice mindful listening, mindful eating, mindful movement and yoga. Mindfulness is a way of being and one of the benefits is that it teaches how to pay attention. As a kindergartener your attention is required in order to learn how to read and write – often in an environment with a lot of external stimuli. Starting early with practicing these healthy habits of mind is a very good idea. Like learning to play an instrument it is much easier early on in life than later on in life. Includes interviews with Neuroscientist Richard Davidson and Mindful Schools Program Director Megan Cowan. Mindful Schools offers courses for educators, psychologists, and parents to learn mindfulness and use it with children and adolescents. Learn more at www.mindfulschools.org.

How do you clean your soul and find happiness?

I am a 19 year old who has gone through many traumatic experiences through my life, as well as much as many injustices. Through it all, throughout the years, I’ve grown bitter, unfeeling, unsypathetic, and psychopathic. I’ve never broken any laws, but i have done many bad deeds. I feel empty of love and goodness. I feel like the bad is corrupting my soul and my wellbeing and I want to change. I don’t believe in God or any religion for that matter, and I wish not to go to therapy, but I would like to know how I can seriously find a way to turn to good, and abandon my bad perception and attitude of reality behind because it is poisonous. Can you please help? I have no friends, and I have no love for anyone(because of the circumstances with my parents and family when I was younger). I just want to change for the better, for me, and my future.
I feel empathy for those who do evil deeds and I know it’s wrong, but I can’t help the way I feel. I want a change of heart.

Hi Paul,
By asking for this change, you have already started the beginning of the process. You said that you don’t believe in God. Please give God a chance, most people turn to him when the need is so great and they have nowhere else to turn. Close your eyes and pray that God would fill you with love and hope. I have done this and I do feel him with me. I had an awful childhood that was unimaginable. I am now happy with my humble life. I still don’t like human company, but have learned compassion and love for others. I choose to spend my time with animals. Learn to love yourself. Until you can, you will have a hard time loving others. Don’t be embarrassed of your past or present way of being. We are all in need of being better! No one is or has ever been perfect. We are all individuals, and always will be different in many ways. Pray to learn tolerance of others. You will feel a change of heart if you are sincere and open your heart to God. I am a Christian, and I try to live a life with kindness to others. I don’t go to church or preach. I am a full time caregiver to animals, and this is where I have been lead to show my kindness and do good for the animals that need the most care and love. You will find your place where you will do the most good. You never know till you are there, but maybe you will be a counselor to help other children that are coming from a rough place! You seem to know what they are going through so you could help them overcome their low time in life. Take your hard times and shortcomings and put your knowledge into helping others. Please remember it is 2 steps forward and 1 step back. Usually time will heal. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help.
The only way to overcome is to move forward and not stop. I wish you the very best! It won’t be easy, but it will be well worth it!

How do I get the healthiest mind possible?

I want my mind to be bright and pure. I know some thoughts I won’t like all the time but any tips on how to get a strong and healthy mind would be appreciated.

Do some sport, (martial arts combined with swimming or running but I advice you to swim), read books, don’t drink alcohol, eat fresh fruits and vegetables, meditate.

Men were designed to lead. (Feminists need not waste time answering) Why wont they? Lead their family into eating healthy instead of junk..lead their family in devotions? Lead their family into developing mind, body and soul in the way the Lord/Creator meant? IS it all a man can do — just work– and woman takes care of everything else? How do you a raise a son to take responsibility for more than food and walls? "Husband" means FARMER (to nurture and to grow and to provide/protect). Maybe there wouldn’t be any feminists if husbands tried? I must be talking about irresponsible men married to good women. There seem to be a lot of them and I would like to know why.

It’s nothing to do with being an irresponsible husband. Not all men want to "lead" and take charge, just like not all woman want to stay at home. It depends on the person. Even if God had made men leaders, that doesn’t mean ALL men will turn out to be, maybe just a majority. God wouldn’t want you to force someone to do something they don’t want to. If a woman wants to lead the family, and he doesn’t, than what’s wrong with them doing what makes them happy?
